Rhinoplasty, or nose surgery, is one of the most common plastic surgery procedures today. It can be performed for aesthetic reasons such as:
• Increasing or reducing the size of the nose
• Changing the shape of the tip or bridge
• Reducing or enlarging the nostrils
• Changing the angle between your nose and upper lip
Rhinoplasty may also be used for reconstructive reasons such as relieving breathing problems that were caused by a birth defect or injury..
The anesthesia is local nad the surgeon will make incisions inside the nostrils or at the base of the chin.
This provides access to the cartilage and bone, which will be re-sculpted to the desired shape and size.
The procedure will last between one and two hours depending on the extent of the surgery.
After rhinoplasty, you will be required to wear a splint to help the bone and cartilage of the nose maintain their new shape. Temporary side effects include swelling, bruising, and discomfort, though each of these should subside within one to two weeks.
